Description
To celebrate 20 years of Austin, TX based nonprofit Latinitas empowering all girls and gender expansive individuals to innovate, with a goal of creating create strong leaders, six courageous female leaders of color who laid the groundwork for social change in Austin were honored in a series of portraits made in 2022. This portrait is of Dr. Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez who received her Ph.D. as a Freedom Forum doctoral fellow from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her masters from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor of journalism degree is from the University of Texas at Austin. Rivas-Rodriguez is best known for founding Voces, an oral history project documenting the lives of almost 1,000 Latinx American veterans. The portrait was created by Veronica Ceci an artist with a decades long exhibition history and works in many major collections.
